User Reviews: Keith Woo, our new man in Malaysia: Day One with the Nexus One
Thanks to Keith Woo, who’s been keeping daily notes on his experience with the Nexus One that we sent him as he gets used to it. Looks like he’s going to do a pretty thorough job of letting us know what he thinks of the phone. Stay tuned for day two.
Just got the Nexus One. Unboxing it felt like Christmas morning or Birthday morning for kids scrambling to see what’s inside. Haha. Feel of the phone is extremely solid, basic primary setup was extremely efficient and effortless.
Took a while to get used to the idea of how the phone multifunctions though. Long presses, short presses, swipes up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A. Didn’t sit down immediately to configure the phone and was outta the house, so it felt kinda like a normal phone for a bit. A bit.
Until after I got back, hooked up to the wifi, swapped in the SIM card, configured the APN for 3G. Downloaded whole bunch of apps. And suddenly. I’m more than amazed by the phone. It’s like having a super ultra PA by your side all the time. The functionality. The vision of the Android system is amazing.
However, the phone, without Internet or unlimited data, can be quite a setback. It’s definitely a 172% must to have Internet on the phone. Otherwise, it’s pretty much like any other phone. But when hooked up the the Internet. Bangbangurded. The phone becomes an epic of a monster.
Speech functions, in depth algorithm functionality, big app store with plenty of choices and growing tremendously, excellent synchronization for contacts. It can get pretty geek though, if you’re not really tech savvy it might take a while to setup all the stuff. But once you get the hang of it, Google does well to take care of everything else. All you need to do is make the first move.
Day one has been good, setting up, downloading some apps. Next thing to discover would be how to get the Nexus One to take me further. After all, it’s all about the User Experience.
