Nexus One appears on Vodafone UK’s coming soon page

Recently reported rumours of the Nexus One coming to Vodafone UK in April are now looking more likely than ever with the phone appearing in the section on Vodafone’s website. It’s still not absolutely certain that Google will to continue to sell the phone exclusively through their online store, there have been hints that Vodafone may also sell the device to customers, but then that would be a departure from Google’s direct sales model. The Vodafone UK launch will be interesting as it will give more indication of exactly how Google intends to partner with carriers as the company rolls out its phone store in other countries.

No word on data plans although they’re likely to be very similar to current iPhone tariffs. And the handset will of course continue be sold exclusively through Google’s online phone store.

Vodafone, T-Mobile and 3 UK have all announced that they are in negotiations with Google support the new Nexus One smartphone from spring 2010, whilst O2 UK has stated that they currently have no plans to sell the phone.

“We are in talks with Google and hope to have something to announce soon,” a T-Mobile spokesman told Total Telecom. David Kerrigan, head of Internet services at 3 UK has also said that the mobile operator is “in talks with Google on ranging the Nexus One. It’s a great Internet phone and we expect plenty of people to import it to the U.K. We see this as a natural platform for our unique Skype, Windows Live Messenger and Spotify offers,” he said.

With the , Google have brought to market a phone which already looks like the slickest Android device to be released to date. It’s likely to be the first in a series of Nexus devices from the search giant, designed to take advantage of the increasingly compelling Android mobile operating system. Whilst the phone itself was the headline announcement at the Mountain View , Google also gave some insight into how they plan to develop their online phone store, which they referred to as a ‘new way to purchase a consumer phone’. This may eventually turn out to be the bigger news from the event, as it’s clear that the Nexus One is just the beginning of what we’re going to see on their online phone store.

Nexus One - US customers already receiving handsets, but what about the rest of the world?

Google launched their new smartphone, the Nexus One yesterday and US customers who ordered the same day should already be taking delivery of their new phone via next day delivery. For those outside the US wondering about availability of the device here’s some answers to the questions that we’ve been getting regarding when, where and for how much?

Availability

Google is currently shipping the phone to just 4 countries. The US (obviously), the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Singapore. Frustrating as it may be if you’re living outside of one of these 4 countries you won’t be able to access Google’s web store even though the phone is likely to work in your country. If you’re after a Nexus One handset and do live in one of these countries then you can order today and have the phone shipped via courier. There’s a charge for shipping to the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore (around $30) and you’ll may also have to pay some tax to the courier when the phone arrives depending on what country you live in.
